Sears Home Central Calgary, Windows installation:

I purchased windows from sears in July 2009 and installation done in September. February 2010, the installation is still not completed. I have been running around like chicken without a head calling every Sears Customer service - They dont help! What do you call poor service? This one is.

Dear Michelle,
I too had business dealings with this character Ash. I know for a fact that he has a criminal record and a history of mental illness, so don't worry about his lies about you.

So after almost 2 months of waiting, I still haven't received the product Chris' site said I would receive for free if I paid the $1.97 shipping charge.

I'm beginning to believe this is just a scam to get your credit card information so they can then do what I stated above, bill me for something I never received or purchased.

Before I talk to my bank, I'm going to ask for my $1.97 back. I should get it since I got my money back on the $97 dollars they took from me, but I obviously won't get reimbursed for all the time it's taking me to get out from under this unethical company.

Hi there,

Thank you for the response.

All I can tell you, is I don't remember ever giving permission for either of those 2 pieces of software to be installed on my computer.

The only reason I knew they existed is because a techie who was helping me fix my computer found them.

So I don't know what to tell you. Of course I can't be 100% certain, but "Open Candy" is such a memorable name, I'm sure I would have remembered if I gave permission for it to install.

So what I'm hearing you say, is that CNET attached it to their software, so when I installed Tech Tracker, it automatically installed your software.

Then I don't blame you, I blame CNET.

Thank you

Hi Michelle,

I'm Dr. Apps, Software Community Guru for OpenCandy. My job is listening to the user and developer community and providing feedback to the OpenCandy team.

I'd like to address two things.

#1) OpenCandy is not "installed" on users' computers. We provide a plug-in which publishers (those who make recommendations) integrate into their installer. That plug-in only runs as part of the installer it was integrated with (i.e. it has no standalone functionality).I'd also like to mention that we changed our plug-in a few months ago so that NO OpenCandy related files are left behind on people's computers. However, we subsequently discovered a bug which affects some versions of the plug-in and can cause OC related files (our dll and a text file) to not be automatically removed after the publisher's (e.g. TechTracker) installer completes (or, IF a recommendation was accepted, after the download & installation of the recommended software). If you have OpenCandy related files you want to remove, there are instructions here(it's painless): http://www.opencandy.com/faqs/#opencandy-dll-opencandy-files .

#2) Regarding Xobni being installed... All OpenCandy-powered recommendations are opt-in. That means you have to CONSCIOUSLY choose to install the recommended software. You will NOT end up with software you didn't want just because you clicked 'Next' while running an OpenCandy-powered installer.

We exist because there wasn't a user-friendly way for developers to make money or reach new users while helping users discover other great software. We work hard to ensure that we provide the best user-experience possible (opt-in only, high-quality software, etc).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (using the email address I registered to post this comment) or through our contact form (http://opencandy.com/contact ). We also have extensive FAQs available at http://opencandy.com/faqs which explain how things work, how we go about it, and lots of other useful info.

Be well and have an awesome 2010!

Alexander did contact me the following day & was very nice & his response was slightly different than whoever the guy was on the forum.

He said they will put USA epay on the list to be added down the road.

That sounds WAY more positive than what I heard.

I did tell him how I was disappointed this wasn't all relayed to us much sooner.

Just an update on this about 1and1.com

I started getting collection agency demands in December 2009, almost a year or more since the last time they tried to extort money out of me.

I told the collection agency (they never pick up their phone so I had to leave a message) that I don't owe 1and1.com any money, that I haven't used their services in over a year since I found out what their business tactics were really like. I tried to tell them to go search online about 1and1.com

They sent me ANOTHER demand letters saying YES YOU DO OWE THE MONEY.

I basically threatened them with my MPP stating that you are trying to extort money from me & I won't tolerate being extorted for money.

I haven't heard from them since & I hope it stays that way.

You can dispute them on your credit report if they ever do try to ruin your credit.

Just so you know.

Hope this helps.

My god, they WON'T leave me alone.

This guy named "Richard" ,I think that was his name, called me out of the blue & his "script" sounded just like what Chris rambled off the other night. When I asked if he was with Chris Carpenter he had no idea who that is.

He said he was with BDS - a marketing company & they are very picky about who they pick, this is top secret not open to the public, they are looking for testimonials & then he happens to mention that he's with Google Cash.

I said Chris IS with Google Cash, he's the one that invented it & you don't even know who he is???

Then he's like "we are only looking for people who are serious in making money with an online company." I told him I am not interested, I already own an online company.

He wanted to know what kind of company & then he tried to start selling me on the BDS service for my company, but then something about testimonials which made no sense to me, so I asked him, "Are you telling me you want a testimonial from me before I've even tried your services?"

He was making no sense, it was clear he was reading a script & didn't understand what he was trying to sell & I then I finally said no thanks, this sounds all very fishy to me & I hung up the phone.

We'll see what Chris has up his sleeve in the next couple of days.

Janet from Chris' office said she would reverse the charge, so that's good.

But then she asked me if I'd be willing to purchase the product at a lower price even after I told her I never agreed to be charged that in the first place LOL

So I said again, no I don't do business with fraudulent companies.
