Well, I never thought I’d be writing a negative complaint about Jay’s company, & I’m sure many will get angry about what I have to say, but I feel the need to tell others of my experience.
If you are going to respond to my post & just flame me, then don’t bother. I have the right to my opinion & I don’t lie, so nothing in this post is false, but of course like everything, it’s my personal experience & my own personal story.
I started off hearing a bit about Jay Abraham online, then at a business seminar I signed up for his Masters of Passive Income program.
The problem with these business seminars that hype you up, is that Jay isn’t the only one marketing their programs, so during that 3-4 day period & at a previous business seminar a few month earlier, I had purchased many things including one program where I had to pay $300/month for almost a year (or maybe it was a year).
That may not be a problem for some people, but I wasn’t making a lot of money at the time & I thought that things would change quite considerably so that I could afford to pay out the money for the next 12 months.
At first it wasn’t a problem making the payments for Jay Abraham’s Masters of Passive Income group plus the other program for $300/month, but by the time the 5th or 7th month rolled around (I can’t remember which month it was), things were sooo tight, I had to ask one of Jay’s assistants to delay one month’s payment which they very nicely did. Honestly I can’t remember if I dealt with billing or someone named Maria (I think her name was) & she’s no longer working for Jay.
I had also talked to Spike Humer once & e-mailed him a few times. He is Jay’s right hand man.
I loved Jay & Spike Humer too, it was very clear they were brilliant businessmen I could learn a ton from & Jay struck me as being very spiritually conscious (I don’t believe in religion) & since I’m spiritually conscious too, I admired him for that trait alone.
My only complaint about the course besides the excessive homework I could never do because life just took over, is that the response time for e-mails was very sporadic & I always wondered why Spike was the only one answering e-mails. One day I could get a response back in 20 minutes, the next time it could be weeks.
Overall I overlooked this because the quality of the information was something I didn’t already know, & I love to learn.
Little did I know my views about Jay’s company & Spike Humer were to drastically change.
First, in the 9th month things were so tight for me, I could barely pay for food or rent because I have a tendency to pay my team first, & then Jay’s charge came through my account, so I realized I’d have to make the call saying I couldn’t pay for a few months until things got settled & more sales came in.
I spoke to billing & right away was treated with disrespect & was talked to like I was a child. The girl there said “well you signed the contract & you knew you had to pay.” or something similar to that. She also threatened me with a collection agency.
Threats don’t work with me, I don’t tolerate them, & that’s one sure fire way for me to NOT co-operate with someone.
LOL, yes, of course I knew I had to pay, but who knows what’s going to happen 10 months into the future? No one knows, & I wasn’t planning on things being this tight, NOR did I ever ONCE say I wasn’t going to pay, I just said my team members, & me & my son have to come first right now. Not having a roof over my head & food on the table isn’t going to get Jay his money any sooner.
I was shocked at how I was being treated, so I complained to Spike via e-mail. I thought he & Jay would want to know how I was treated.
I was then further shocked that not once in his e-mails, did Spike apologize to me for how I was treated by this girl in billing. He was nice enough to get the payments pushed back for 2 months & I really appreciated that, but all the while in my head the way I was treated stuck with me & also another part of me was saying, this guy Jay is worth how many billions of dollars, around 10 billion I think, & this is how I’m treated over $500 with only 2 months left in my contract.
And before you say “if every person was allowed to avoid paying $500 he wouldn’t be a billionaire”, I know that, I’m not stupid, but it’s the way I was treated, as if my bill was like hundreds of thousands of dollars & how I was threatened because I was open & honest about my situation.
Maybe I was treated this way because I don’t have a lot of money which makes it even worse.
We aren’t talking that I refused to pay, or that I was delinquent after being only 2 months into the program, I was actually very proud of myself for having managed to pay for 10 months when it was very hard for me every month.
Anyway, I didn’t hold a grude, but continued to run my small business & I thought that was the end of it, I’d be billed the 11th payment in 2 months time.
Well 2 months later I get this e-mail from billing saying that my card declined for the $250 payment. I didn’t know what they were talking about because the money was there, so I wrote back like 20 minutes after the e-mail arrived in my inbox. Well this was the start of once again being treated like garbage.
Then I remembered that I had moved & thought that was the issue, so I gave them my new address. I told the woman to let me know when the card went through, as I wanted to make sure everything was fine & I knew it was coming out of my bank account.
To my shock I was told it didn’t go through again, & that when she tried to call me, the phone was disconnected. I think this was another female who took over, & her entire tone was beligerant & once again I was threatened with the collection agency. So of course as I’ve explained, this got my back up, how dare they threaten me when I’ve done nothing but be honest & upfront. I mean how much more open can one’s actions be I responded back within 20 minutes, & gave them my new address.
So I told her that if she threatens me one more time & talks to me like that one more time, she can send it to collections, I don’t care.
I also couldn’t resist the dig at her lack of intelligence, that of course number is out of service, I told them I just moved, so of COURSE there’s a 98% chance that the number changed. No one asked me for it, nor did I refuse to provide it, I just didn’t think it was needed because the money was in the account & I even told her the money was there.
She read the e-mail & instead of apologizing & trying to work things out with me, she ignored me.
All she had to do was tell me it didn’t go through again, & ask me to please check with my bank (that would have been my next step of course), but NOOOOOO, her e-mail clearly made it seem like I was being fraudulent & refusing to pay. She never even gave me the benefit of the doubt that there was a problem at my bank’s end, or better yet, on their end.
Why in the world would someone take the time to write back & give a new address & tell the company to process the credit card payment if the money wasn’t in there. LOL, brains people.
What shocked me really was not just how I was being treated, but what types of people Jay had working for him, & I know how business is run. Sure you may get one bad apple as an employee, but to have 2 incidents almost exactly the same, that’s not just a coincident. That means I was either dealing with the same nasty person in billing, or Jay purposely hired people who are nasty.
I don’t really care at this point, what I did next was e-mail Spike & I was livid. He said he would look into it the minute he got back to the office, & would talk it over with Jay, as he was in the airport.
I wrote him back, thanked him & reminded him that this terrible treatment had happened once before. That was very crucial information in my opinion, as it shows it wasn’t an isolated incident.
So I waited for several days thinking he was really busy, but I thought he was going to get back to me that night & he didn’t.
About a week or so later I e-mailed him again to both e-mail addresses & said I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt that he e-mailed me & I just didn’t receive it because e-mail is never 100% reliable. Spike is on AOL which is a terrible server (don’t get me started on that LOL) & I know Jay’s had server problems before not once, but a few times in the year I was studying from him& nowadays you have around a 50/50 change of getting e-mail because there are just too many e-mail issues.
So, did I ever receive a response back to that e-mail as well?
Nope, I was totally ignored, & I didn’t know what to do next since I don’t chase people, & I dislike people who are passive aggressive & ignore people. That’s very abusive in my opinion. I’m a very upfront honest person & I feel it’s better to be honest with a human than treat them like they don’t exist. They may not be happy about what you have to say, but if you say it gently, down the road they may appreciate it more because you were honest with them, & I feel good about not shirking my responsibility to communicate & most times I do it because I feel almost all problems can be solved.
So today I suddenly get a collection notice in the mail from non other than The Jay Abraham Group.
I wasn’t going to post about my experiences unless that notice came & it did, so I’m posting.
Maybe no one else has experienced something similar to me because they never had problems making the payments, but that doesn’t discount how I was treated.
Now I know why Bill Bartman made his billions by running his collection agency much differently than how 99% of all collection agencies run their business.
At one of those 2 business seminars he told us that he treated the delinquent accounts nicely & that’s why he ended up collecting on so many of them.
My account wasn’t even delinquent, I just needed time to come up with the last 2 payments of $250, & all I had to do was make one call to my bank to find out why the transaction didn’t go through even after the address was changed
