So I’m only finding out about this now & yes, that is definitely possible.

I took my Chevy Malibu 2000 to Ultimate Auto Centre back on June of 2006. I had recently purchased the car & it wasn’t running properly.

I was told I needed a tuneup, because it had never been done. A lot more than a tune up was done that day, I forked over $480.

I’ll state that I don’t remember all the facts since it was so long ago, all I know, is that on their receipt it states they replaced the wire kit & the spark plugs & I know several mechanics had complained about the spark plugs when I was trying to get the car fixed for as little as possible.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I take the car in to get looked at. I hadn’t taken it in to any mechanic in a while since I had put a lot of money into this car.

I was refered to this mechanic as someone who doesn’t rip people off.

Based on the symptoms I told them I was having, they suggested I have a tuneup done.

I said I had already had a tuneup done a couple of years ago (I couldn’t remember the exact date). They said it should be done every year.

I had to give in, I knew there were problems with the car. I also had the transmission fluid flushed & replaced.

When I went to pick the car up, I was told the transmission fluid had been terrible, AND, that the spark plugs & wires had NEVER been replaced, they were the original parts from the manufacturer.

I was very upset, so when I got home, I went to pull up the receipt to whatever garage I had gone to, to see if I was right, & the wires & plugs had been replaced.

Based on the price, I wasn’t sure if they had just fixed them or actually replaced them, so I called back this new mechanic to ask him what he thought of the prices.

He said that $90 for spark plugs was too much unless that included labour. He didn’t say anything about the wire kit, I didn’t want to bother him too much.

So because I can’t be 100% sure if they were replaced or just fixed (it doesn’t say fixed on the invoice, it makes it seem like they were replaced), I have to assume I may have been ripped off by Ultimate Auto Centre in Mississauga.

Just a warning.

Michelle
